Q: Do I need Hotel or Restaurant experience to join Kimpton?
Nope! Many of our positions do not require previous experience. We do, however look for great personalities and the ability to learn! Hospitality is about providing great experiences and that starts with your ability to smile and make people feel welcome.
Q: What sort of qualities do you look for in a candidate?
The candidates who stand out are generally those who have had experience in multiple areas within the hotel or restaurant. Because Kimpton tends to act lean, we usually have a lot of crossover into other departments. So it is really important that we all know how other departments are running. If someone hasn't had a chance to accumulate a lot of hospitality background yet that's okay, too! It often goes a long way when we see a people who have been particularly involved with their community. Since Kimpton is a company with a big heart, we love to see individuals who have the same passion to give back in some way.
Q: Are there growth opportunities at Kimpton? Will you give me training?
Are there ever?! Kimpton is growing. And we sure do love to promote from within whenever possible. We do offer several forms of specialized training and cross-training. However we suggest and encourage individuals to raise their hand to tell us what areas they want to grow in or learn more about. Since a lot of our programs aren't a “one size fits all” model, these training opportunities tend to be tailor made for the individual.
Q: I submitted my resume online. How long will it take for you to call me for an interview?
This is a good question and the honest answer is “it depends.” Our hiring managers usually receive a lot of resumes & applications (as much as we'd like to, sometimes it's just not possible to reach out and speak with everyone). Generally, if the hiring manager sees your resume and is interested in getting to know you better, s/he will contact you within 1-2 weeks to start the process. You also are welcome to contact the property/ restaurant to introduce yourself, express your interest and check the status of the position.
Q: Any tips on how I can stand out in the interview process?
We look for people who can truly be themselves during the interview process. If a candidate can be themselves when they meet us, they will do the same for our guests and in turn create the kind of fun and genuine service we are aiming for.
Q: What sort of benefits do you offer?
We recognize that taking care of our guests is a big task so it is only natural that we as a company take care of you first. Our comprehensive benefits offerings include Health, Medical, Vision, long and short term disability, 401K with employer contributions, wellness discounts, employee assistance programs, back-up child care, paid sabbaticals, paid vacation and wellness time and travel discounts. To learn more about our benefits visit our benefits page on Benefits.
Q: How do I get into the Manager in Training Program?
The good news is we are not your traditional MIT program! We know that one size does not fit all, so we have a bevy of options which include:
1 ) Hotel or Restaurant Operations Rotational Program - In this rotational program, you will experience learning opportunities through a year-long program as you rotate through different hotel or restaurant operations divisions such as front office, housekeeping and guest services or banquets, front-of-the-house restaurant operations and catering.
2 ) Functional MIT Program - there's no rotation here! Instead you will spend up to 12 months in one department where you will begin to build your career such as Finance, Human Resources, Sales or Catering or Engineering and begin the foundation of your Kimpton career in a particular function of interest.
3 ) Direct Placement - As a Direct Placement candidate, you are hired into an open hourly or salaried position based on your previous experience and, by way of your MIT status, you will have an all-access pass to our management training and leadership programs offered through Kimpton University.
4 ) Existing Kimpton employees can also apply for any of the MIT programs listed above as well.
